Without the change the build against c23 compiler (like gcc-15) fails as:

parted> parted.c: In function '_init_commands':
parted> parted.c:2469:9: error: passing argument 2 of 'command_create' from incompatible pointer type []
parted> 2469 | do_version,
parted> | ^~~~~~~~~~
parted> | |
parted> | int (*)(void)

Things done

  • Built on platform(s)
    • x86_64-linux
    • aarch64-linux
    • x86_64-darwin
    • aarch64-darwin
  • For non-Linux: Is sandboxing enabled in nix.conf? (See Nix manual)
    • sandbox = relaxed
    • sandbox = true
  • Tested, as applicable:
  • Tested compilation of all packages that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review rev HEAD". Note: all changes have to be committed, also see nixpkgs-review usage
  • Tested basic functionality of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
  • 25.05 Release Notes (or backporting 24.11 and 25.05 Release notes)
    • (Package updates) Added a release notes entry if the change is major or breaking
    • (Module updates) Added a release notes entry if the change is significant
    • (Module addition) Added a release notes entry if adding a new NixOS module
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.

Tested after merging with current nixos-unstable:

  • Created/modified lots of partitions with pyparted. This isn't parted, but parted is a dependency of pyparted. So that suggests that the parted functionality still works, even when compiled with enableParallelBuilding.
  • Shell command parted --version works as expected. That's likely the code that is affected by the new patch.

So, in essence, I tested most of parted functionality only indirectly, but those things still seem to work as expected.

nixpkgs-review wants to rebuild more that 1000 packages, so I didn't do that.
