Stop auto-workspace switching when app close?

Is there a setting or command to stop workspaces from switching when an app fully closes. For example when opening a game in steam when I close the library window and a game is starting to load up it will throw me to a different workspace that has an app on it and then the steam game will try to pop up on that space instead of the one I was on. Or when I quit firefox I get tossed into the next workspace with an open app.
