Decryption Error with correct password

I have been using meld encrypt to encrypt a very important file and suddenly it started to respond in Obsidian with “decryption failed” even though I am 100% certain that the password is correct. I have a sync setup b/w my Windows PC and Iphone. The file is synced but just won't decrypt. Anything that can be done to decrypt it? Any way to fix this?

Hi @cve-exp,

You're not going to like this, but not really.

The only thing that I can suggest is to try with a previous version of the note from a backup.

What version of obsidian and the plugin were you using at the time?

Were you using the built in sync from obsidian or something else?

If you open the file in a text editor (e.g. vscode) does it look corrupt in any way? It should be formatted in JSON.

It's difficult to determine what happened.

Does iCloud keep previous versions of files? Try restoring an older version of the note and try.

Sadly, it only stores the version if syncing on a Mac. I am unfortunately using Windows and Iphone.

I would request you to kindly keep this issue in mind, if at any point in time you find a solution to it, please share it across.

Hi,
I tried your offline tool and it throws this error in the Console.

SyntaxError: Unexpected token 'v', "vqVqu3KRjz"... is not valid JSON
at JSON.parse ()
at T.decode (offline-decrypt.js:1:6023)
at _.decrypt (offline-decrypt.js:1:6750)
at async decryptHandler (decrypt.html:100:19)

Any way around this?

That errors when you paste the whole file contents in?

That tool will eventually be replaced by the one below, you could also try:

I just pasted the encoded data. The error doesn't show up with the whole JSON pasted.

I tried the other tool as well, but it didn't work.
